| The Freshman Survival Kit
Each year, thousands of Freshman Survival Kits (FSKs) are passed out on campuses across the United States. The kits are produced by the Campus Ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ and are evangelistic for students who do not yet have a personal faith, but are also encouraging for young believers.
The kits are customizable for high school students, African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Hispanics, international students, cadets and midshipmen.
What's In the Kit?
Packaged in a laundry bag, each kit includes a highlighter, sticker, water bottle, Bible, book (either "Jesus Without Religion," "Case for Christ," or "Blue Like Jazz") and an "Uncensored" DVD.
Why Use the Kit?
These kits give staff members or student leaders a friendly and low-pressure opportunity to talk to students about God. When combined with spiritually-themed questionnaires, the foundation for future conversations is set, and many recipients later attend large group meetings or Bible studies.
It's estimated that each kit exposes 3-to-5 people to the gospel message because of the tendency for students to share the contents with friends and roommates.
For campuses without a current Campus Crusade presence, an FSK outreach helps identify the level of interest and possible leaders. "FSKs have proven to be the Number One tool for launching new ministries," says Jane Stump, who directs the project nationally.
How Do I Use the Kit?
Use it as a gift to your entire school or to
the entire freshman class. Use it to help target
a specific segment of the campus. Use it as a follow-up
to special events. The sky's the limit. It's sure to
cause a stir among students.
Follow-up to the kit can be accomplished in various ways: Have
students fill out a survey as they receive a kit or
include your own response card in the kit with your
address or e-mail. It's recommended you add a local
enclosure about your ministry activities, meeting times,
contact number and Web site.
How Do I Order the Kit?
Each Freshman Survival Kit costs $10.00 for a quantity of 1-50, or $8.00 for quantities of 50 or more (including shipping
and handling). Contact Jane Stump at 407-443-7699 or via e-mail at jane.stump@uscm.org to place your order; include your shipping address and quantity of kits.
How Do I get others involved?
The Freshman Survival Kit is a tangible means for businessmen
and churches to make a financial investment in youth
that will last for eternity. Adult leaders want to see
every student in their community given the chance to
hear the truth, and the kit can be their way of helping
the vision come true. Present this opportunity to them and watch as God provides the resources for this
cost-effective means of putting valuable Christian resources
in the hands of teenagers. You may even want to ask your friends, family members or even Sunday school class members to help you sponsor 5, 50 or 500 kits.
